2021 Limited Run Season Poster

£185.00

2021 was the season that inspired me to start painting Formula 1. As the drama built throughout the months, I kept getting flashes in my head of how I would depict this wild and unique sport as abstract art. I decided to sit down one day and paint Monza and Baku at my kitchen table. They spoke a similar visual language to me of lines and shapes representing cars, chicanes, corners, and brake lock-ups. When I decided to share the paintings months later, I was shocked at how many people instantly knew what they were, even before reading the titles. Baku shows Lewis running wide at the restart, using too much “brake magic” as Mercedes called it. Monza is the infamous collision between Lewis and Max at the chicane, with the latter ending up launched on top of Lewis’s car and both of them out of the race. Next came Silverstone and the shocking 53g Verstappen crash into the tire barrier on the first lap of the race. I wanted this painting to feel flat out and perilous as the shape of Max’s car shoots over the gravel towards the wall. Lastly, there was Abu Dhabi. I will never forget watching that race live, sort of half paying attention as Nicholas Latifi crashed into a wall, causing one of the most controversial race restarts in recent memory. I wanted to incorporate the architectural shade/lattice structure that bridges the track, as well as the red and white to represent the different color compounds of tires. Ultimately it all came down to who had on the better tire for the last lap of the last race.

All four paintings are meant to be viewed together, and despite being painted months apart, they all speak the same language. I hope will remind you of an incredibly epic season that you can bring your own meaning and interpretation to as well.
